Organizations within the Congregation
All organizations within this congregation exist to aid it in ministering to the members of the congregation and to all persons who can be reached with the Gospel of Christ. As outgrowths and expressions of the congregation's life, the organizations are subject to its oversight and direction. The congregation determines their policies, guides their activities, and receives regular reports concerning their membership, work and finances.
Special interest groups, other than those of the official organizations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, are organized only after authorization has been given by the Congregation Council.
Congregation Council
The governing body of Griffith Lutheran Church is its Congregation Council. Council members are representatives of the church and the various organizations operating within it. The Council is composed of the President of the congregation, the Vice President, the Recording Secretary, the Treasurer, the Financial Secretary, the Sunday School Superintendent, a designee of the Griffith Lutheran Church Women (GLCW), and the Chairperson of each of the Boards of Education, Elders, Evangelism, Missions, Social Ministry, Stewardship, Trustees and Youth. The Pastor is an ex-officio member of the Congregation Council.
It is the duty of the Congregation Council to represent Griffith Lutheran Church, serving to administer and manage the external and internal affairs of the church in the best interest of the congregation. The Council is accountable in all things committed to it by the voting membership of the congregation.
Regular meetings of the Congregation Council are held on the second Monday of each month. A majority of the Council constitutes a quorum. Special meetings may held whenever necessary.
