Board of Missions Chairman is Carolyn Connell. Board members are Tom Thirion, Carol Schuster, Sandra Ruban, Steve Connell and Newt Campbell.
New board members are being sought. Please speak to Carolyn Connell or any board member if you can assist with this important GLC ministry.
Next scheduled meeting is in October.
In addition to the listed missions, Wittenberg Village in Crown Point, The Sumo Family and GAP Ministries in Conway, Arkansas have also received donations.
Ongoing Mission Projects:
The Mission Board continues to collect Campbell product labels (including Swanson, V8, Open Pit, Franco-American, Prego, Vlasic and Pepperidge Farms) for the Najavo Lutheran Mission.
We also continue to collect used eyeglasses for the Lions Club.
And pop can pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House of Indiana in Indianapolis.
These items can be dropped off at the church.

September 2007 -CROP WALK - Was held here on Sunday, October 7, 2007. Over $3000.00 was raised.
Also in August 2007 - A donation in the amount of $300.00 to The Strisko Family (in conjunction with another $300 from the GLC Staples For Life Committee and also a clothing drive) who lost their Griffith home in a devastating fire. And an additional $300.00 to the Vacation Bible School mission of St. Jude Hospital in Tennessee.

June 2007 - The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation received a donation in the amount of $320.00 which was delivered by Laura and John Kettwig.

May 2007 - The American Cancer Society - Relay For Life received a donation in the amount of $550.00. Mission Board Member Sandra Ruban personally raised $2,295.00 and her team - Tom's Cancer Kickers - raised over $10,500.00 for the Hammond Relay thus far.

June 2005 - The Jonah Starke Good Benefit Fund - Jonah is a 2nd grader at Portage Christian School. He is in need of a brain operation in order to avoid his becoming fully paralyzed. The fund received $350.00.

September 2004 - The Joe Nimetz Fund - Received $600.00 - The Board of Missions selected the Nimetz Family as our designated mission for the month of September. Some of you may remember the family, as they were GLC members several years ago. Bob Pahl saw an article in the Post Tribune which detailed the family plight. In conversation with Debbie, she related that her youngest sons, US Marine Lance Cpl. Jacob, 21 and Joseph, 18, were in an auto accident in December. The accident has left Joseph in a Level 3 coma with traumatic brain injury. Debbie is hopeful that she can raise funds to purchase a stander for Joe, which costs $4,800.00 She has received donations of over $1500.00 so far, through a Kankakee Valley High School fundraiser and from the response to the PT article. Debbie tells us that her oldest son Adam, 28, has a wife and two children and lives in Hebron. After a six-month family hardship leave, Jacob has returned to active duty. She feels certain that Joe would want it that way. Please keep the Nimetz Family in your prayers and remember them this month as our mission concern. There is also a Joe Nimetz Fund at the First National Bank of Wheatfield, where the Nimetz Family now lives.
August 2004 - Navajo Evanelical Lutheran Mission, Rock Point, AZ. Received $300.00. They also received nearly $2000.00 in donations of school and health supplies collected from our Vacation Bible School student and the congregation. A thank-you note was received for the donation.

February 2004 - St. Jude House received $400.00. They shelter and provide support services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. This organization also conducts education programs to teach others to recognize and put a stop to the cycle of violence.
January 2004 - The Caring Place received $400.00. They are a shelter in Valparaiso for women and children, victims of domestic violence. This agency provides services and support for victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse in Lake, Porter, and Starke counties.
December 2003 - Salvation Army and St. Joseph Soup Kitchen - $250.00 each. The Salvation Army's message is based on the Bible. It's ministry is motivated by the love of God. It's mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. The Salvation Army provides basic human services, family & youth programs, summer camps, disaster relief and holiday assistance.

Lutheran Vespers, a radio ministry of the ELCA has been chosen was our monthly mission
concern. Through the medium of radio the Word of the Lord is carried to people all
across the country. Walt Wangerin, Jr. is the speaker for Lutheran Vespers telling
stories of faith, preaching the Good News of Jesus, consoling believers and reaching out
to those who do not yet believe.

February 2000 - This month Pastor Payne's recent cause for Lutheran Pastors in Liberia was chosen. There are about 130 ordained ministers in need of assistance. They have little or no food and equipment and very little else to aid them in their ministry of The Word to the people of Liberia. Your generosity will help those dedicated and committed pastors in Liberia spread the Gospel.

July 1999 - Our mission was the ELCA Domestic Disaster Response for the tornado victims in Oklahoma and Kansas. The congregation collected $216 and $284 from the Chaveriat Fund was added. The Mission Board sent a check for $500.
